A law graduate has enjoyed her first taste of life in the legal profession after winning a competition to secure a week’s work experience at a respected Warwickshire firm.

Aspiring solicitor Felicia Wong, who has just completed her law degree at Coventry University, won the chance to spend a working week with the team at Blythe Liggins Solicitors, in Rugby Road, Leamington.

Felicia was mentored by Jessica McDonnell, principal associate solicitor at Blythe Liggins, and spent the week working across the firm’s teams of legal experts, including wills and probate, personal injury, litigation, employment, commercial, conveyancing and family law.

Felicia, who is planning to go on to complete a master’s in law, said: “I thoroughly enjoyed my work experience placement with Blythe Liggins, where I had the opportunity to work alongside a range of different departments.
“Everyone was incredibly welcoming and supportive towards my work, and was more than happy to share their knowledge and experience with me, making my experience enjoyable.
“Each department gave me equally interesting and challenging tasks which gave me valuable insight into their own individual legal profession whilst also allowing myself to use critical thinking. Feedback was always constructive which helped develop my knowledge and skills even further.
“It was a fantastic experience and I am very grateful to everyone at Blythe Liggins for making my placement such a positive and rewarding experience.
“I would also like to thank Jessica for being such a wonderful mentor and guide throughout my experience at Blythe Liggins. She will surely welcome everyone who is blessed with the opportunity of this placement in the future.”
Jessica said: “Felicia was an absolute joy to be around and she was so engaging. All members of staff commented on how pleasant she was and that she was genuinely excited to spend the week with us at Blythe Liggins.
“While she was with us, Felicia spent time working across all our departments and getting a real insight into the workings of a busy legal firm.
“She also had the chance to speak with junior members of the team to discover how to qualify, taking into account the new routes which are now available for people wishing to join the profession.”

Felicia won the chance to spend the week at Blythe Liggins after writing an article about what had inspired her to pursue a career in the legal profession.

The competition was launched at Coventry Law Fest, held at Coventry University, earlier this year, an event which aims to connect students and graduates with local legal professionals.
