Exporters will be able to hear about the opportunities and challenges in new and existing markets at AHDB’s annual Red Meat Export Conference next month.
On March 17, AHDB is bringing back the popular in-person event for the first time in two years, during which time sessions have been held online due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
This year’s programme features a wealth of industry leaders, who will share valuable insight into the export arena and provide an overview of the current trade dynamics.
The past year has seen new markets open their doors to UK red meat and the conference will look at where the international opportunities exist and how exporters, working with AHDB, can turn them into a commercial reality.
AHDB International Market Development Director Dr Phil Hadley said: “It has certainly been an unprecedented past year for exporters, with the impact of Brexit and Covid-19 creating many challenges for our red meat exports.
“However, despite the difficulties many faced, we have still managed to secure new market access in countries such as Mexico and the US and we have seen shipments continue to more than 50 different countries around the globe.”
The conference will feature presentations from AHDB’s Export team, as well as representatives working on the ground in key target markets, who will share insight on market conditions and look at the impact of African Swine Fever and Covid-19.
AHDB will also discuss its work with government and industry to secure new market access and how red meat is performing in existing markets including the Americas and Asia. Attendees will also have the chance to hear about halal market opportunities in the Middle East and Africa, as well as insight into the environmental challenges for exporters.
AHDB’s Consumer Insight team will also provide a first look at new research commissioned by AHDB which explores consumer buying behaviours in the US, Europe and Asia and where British produce fits into these markets.
And Minister for Exports Mike Freer is due to speak at the conference via video to address some of the key trade and export questions.

It will be a fantastic opportunity to share our work and insight with exporters and provide the opportunity for attendees to network and strengthen relationships which benefit their businesses.
