As the doors opened to MIPIM Cannes, after 2 years, Ami Kotecha tells the industry that it is time to take action and to deliver onsite net zero carbon for new buildings and for standing stock.

Amro Real Estate Partners’ net zero solution, Build2Green, follows a whole life cycle approach to carbon emissions that encompasses the impact of embodied and in-use carbon and applies machine learning for continuous measurement and management of in-use emissions. Amro’s latest PBSA scheme in Spain, Amro Seville, achieved a BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ rating and an EPC rating ‘A’, with a 75% improvement in efficiency standards compared to the current market standards.

MIPIM 2022 is the largest international exhibition for real estate professionals, with over 17,000 attendees from all over the world. The theme of MIPIM 2022 is ‘driving urban change’ which will be at the centre of every presentation and discussion with debates and speeches around sustainable development issues.

The recent pandemic has accelerated underlying trends of remote work, online shopping and home entertainment and has encouraged more of us to speak out about the social and environmental issues in our communities. As a society we are all taking more responsibility for transforming the spaces in which we live, work, and play to provide a more sustainable and secure future for generations to come. In turn, the real estate industry is beginning to make those transitions in response to the changing needs of its occupiers.

This year at MIPIM, the Proptech sector is expected to move closer to centre stage, with over a hundred proptech start-ups participating and the venture capital industry taking an active role in promoting the role of innovation in addressing climate change and post-pandemic lifestyle changes that impact the built environment.

Ami Kotecha, Co-Founder & Head of Venture Investments at Amro Partners said: “I have been passionate about improving sustainability in real estate for a number of years now, continuously working with innovative solutions to push the boundaries of what is possible through our invest-develop-operate value chain. Build2Green is Amro Partners’ response to delivering carbon neutral projects at speed and at scale, with time being of the essence if we are to bend the curve to limit global warming to less than 1.5 degrees Celsius.”

“Our decarbonisation strategy is driven by collaboration, and it is pleasing to see the big impact that Proptech will make at this year’s MIPIM event. With the world focused on delivering Net-Zero Carbon ratings, real estate must play a fundamental role in sustainability management, helping to ensure a habitable planet for all.”
