Getir, the pioneer of ultrafast grocery delivery, has reached a milestone of over one million donated meals from its gstores to local good causes. This is the second significant milestone achievement for Getir and Neighbourly, who in partnership reached 500,000 meal donations in November last year.

This initiative which began in April 2022 has been facilitated by the award-winning giving platform Neighbourly, which serves some of the UK’s biggest companies and supports thousands of local good causes. In total, 422 tonnes of food have been donated by Getir to local charities, 1,520 tonnes of Co2 have been saved and there has been an overall financial impact of over £1.8 million.

The cost of living crisis is putting immense pressure on UK households who need extra support to put food on the table. The Bank of England published a March report on the cost of living, finding that people were struggling to afford essentials such as food, energy, fuel, and housing. According to this report, one in seven people have skipped meals amid the rising cost of living – up from one in eight three months ago. Those on low or fixed incomes such as Universal Credit or state pensions were particularly badly affected. As were people with healthcare issues, disabilities, and caring responsibilities.

Getir is working with Neighbourly to be a good neighbour, and the whole Getir estate is live on the Neighbourly platform, providing community organisations and charities with food donations. Getir is proud to be a part of this initiative alongside supermarket giants Sainsbury’s, M&S, Aldi, and Lidl.

Since joining forces with Neighbourly, Getir has donated over one million meals to 334 charities.

Chris Chaaya, UK General Manager, Getir, said: “In light of the ongoing challenges families face with the rising cost of living, we are more committed than ever to providing assistance to those in need. We’re proud to have reached this incredible milestone, and we will continue working with Neighbourly and local communities to show our dedication to supporting them. As a company, we strive to be active and valuable in the areas we serve.”

Steve Butterworth, CEO of Neighbourly, said: “We’re delighted to be supporting Getir as they reach this milestone. Our community survey results have highlighted the growing demand and increasing pressure that local charities are facing, and this scheme is providing much-needed support for these hard-working organisations and the families they support.”
