Lockdown Brits have turned to dogs and carpet cleaner to get them through a year of quarantine.

According to a recent study*, 3.2 million UK households acquired a pet since the beginning of the pandemic. That, combined with a huge rise in the hours the nation spends at home has caused a significant upsurge in the hours Brits spend cleaning up.

With the lockdown anniversary on March 23rd, cleaning and laundry expert, Dr. Beckmann has analysed its sales data during lockdown and has reported a huge increase in demand for their cleaning products – most notably the Carpet Stain Remover – which saw a staggering 126% rise in YOY sales, revealing a notable shift in consumer behaviour.

The expansion of pets in Brits’ households, resulted in a huge surge in demand for Dr. Beckmann’s Pet Stain & Odour Remover, as owners looked for help to eradicate stains and odours created by the increasing number of pets in the home.

Dr. Beckmann spokesperson, Susan Fermor said: “With the beginning of lockdown, came changes and challenges that we all had to face as a nation – working from home and home-schooling becoming part of our daily lives.

“With more time being spent at home, it’s inevitable that accidental stains are created, and our carpets see more wear and tear than usual.

“We’ve seen an unprecedented demand for our Carpet Stain Remover and Pet Stain & Odour Remover products over the last 12 months, as we experience a change in consumer behaviour.

“The pandemic has resulted in companies offering more flexibility to their employees, with an increased volume of people working from home, so we anticipate that this increase in demand for cleaning products will continue to evolve for some time, as homes become the hub of people’s day-to-day activities, whether that be personal or professional.”

The Carpet Stain Remover and Pet Stain & Odour Remover have been huge hits with cleaning influencers like Mrs. Hinch and Queen of Clean – leading to regular nationwide conversation about how to keep your homes clean and fresh, throughout lockdown and beyond.

Cleaning has never been so high on the public agenda. So much so that Dr. Beckmann has even launched a specialist home cleaning podcast series – which is already getting rave reviews and winning listeners all across the country.

The newly launched Dr. Beckmann podcast series – in conjunction with Smooth Radio – sees the first in the series focusing on how lockdown has caused seismic changes in how we clean our homes and the importance of cleaning your washing machine. Check out the podcast, Dr. Beckmann: Uncovered here.
