Tonbridge-based S&S Distribution has appointed Romas Kusneraitis as Director as the company enters into a new phase of growth.

In his new role Romas will help steer the future direction of the company, a family business, which was acquired by UK pallet distribution network Palletline in 2015.

Romas joins S&S after an illustrious career in retail account management, spanning more than a quarter of a century holding senior roles with some of the biggest names in the logistics industry.

He brings with him an impressive skill set and growing company revenue and increasing storage space are just part of his game plan. He is also passionate about helping every member of the team reach their full potential, with a key aim of attracting younger people into the transport industry whilst at the same time encouraging employee retention.

Handling up to 600 pallets a day, the company has a strong pedigree in distributing a wide range of products from food and drink to hazardous goods and even sausage skins.

It is however within the e-commerce side of the business where Romas sees a significant opportunity for growth.

Since the start of Covid Romas said that B2C orders have grown to make up about 10 per cent of the business. They are still continuing to rise and Romas believes they have the potential to double over the next 12 to 18 months.

The company also has storage capacity for 6,000 pallets, but with more customers requiring longer storage times – commonly six to 12 months – Romas is keen to acquire more warehousing space.

Romas said: “There is a huge opportunity for S&S to increase our presence in the South-East by not only expanding the range of value-added services we provide to our customers, but crucially to ensure we have the right structure in place whilst not losing sight of our family culture.

“One of my key aims is to make the transport sector in general more attractive to young people starting out in their careers and we can offer a range of roles from joining as an apprentice in our company run workshop to warehousing, customer services and management positions.

“We want to reinvigorate S&S Distribution by investing in and developing our existing team members and by bringing in fresh talent to help drive the business forward and secure its long-term future.

“And in a bid to help ease the current driver shortage, S&S is also sponsoring Category C drivers to undertake Category C+E training subject to a year’s training agreement.

Established 53 years ago – S&S Distribution employs 90 staff, including 50 drivers, and operates 47 vehicles and 43 trailers comprising a mix of double decks, straight frames and urban.

Accredited to FORS Bronze standard, the company counts Amazon, XPO, Freightroute and Hazchem among its 200 customers nationwide primarily serving the Southeast.

Paul Elson, Logistics Managing Director, Palletline commented: “A warm welcome to Romas and his team.

“From the time he joined in July of this year Romas has hit the ground running, injecting a new vibrance into S&S and laying the foundations on which he will continue to build. He has a number of exciting plans in the pipeline and we wish him every success in his new role.”
