Southgate Global, one of Europe’s leading packaging suppliers, has been shortlisted for Packaging Company of the Year for the 2021 Packaging News Awards after a year of success and expansion for the business.
The awards, the packing industry’s “Oscars” will be hosted at a prestigious event at The Brewery, London on 12 November and are designed to celebrate the creativity and innovation in the packaging sector.
The shortlist follows Southgate’s significant growth over the past 12 months, nearly doubling turnover. Established over 50 years ago, the firm has a customer base that ranges from over 600 distributors across Europe to a portfolio of large e-commerce clients to those specialising in warehousing and logistics.
Leading the way in sustainability, in the past year Southgate has launched a variety of sustainable packaging products from carton sealing, paper mailers and void fill, with plans to have a suite of sustainable options for every product.
Craig Turner, Chief Executive of Southgate said: “We feel honoured to have been shortlisted for the Packaging Company of the Year award. The category is full of big names in the packaging industry and we’re proud to have been recognised for all our recent success.”
In 2021, the company also featured for the first time in The Sunday Times HSBC International Track 200. The listing ranks Britain’s mid-market private companies with the fastest growing international sales, measured over the last two years.
“The past year has really been a whirlwind for the company, having experienced an extremely rapid period of growth. Both the e-commerce boom and our investment into more sustainable products have contributed to an increase in sales and by the end of this year we will have broken boundaries for expansion within the sector.”
The large increase in sales drove the need for more warehouse space for the rapidly expanding business, resulting in Southgate expanding its distribution centre space by 60 per cent, growing from 4,000 pallets to 8,000 dedicated pallet spaces plus further floor space for packing and fulfilment.
Southgate recently announced it has achieved a Silver EcoVadis rating, showcasing its focus on driving sustainability within its business and the wider industry. The rating recognises Southgate’s continued focus on cultivating innovative, eco-friendly packaging alternatives.
